Former Queensland Premier Peter Beattie lists Brisbane Queenslander

Atherstone, the five bedroom Brisbane home of former Queensland premier Peter Beattie and his wife Heather has been listed for sale.

The downsizing couple have lived at their Wiltston hilltop Queenslander home, in Brisbane’s inner north, for 22 years. 

Peter Beattie was Queensland premier from 1998 to 2007. 

They are off to an apartment on the Brisbane River at Newstead.

Marketing agent Peter Taudevin said he was thrilled to be involved in selling the 1920s home which he describes as a “slice of Queensland history”.

Paddington record runner-up as Mike Cannon-Brookes sells

About $10.5 million - and a suburb record runner up - has been snappily secured by the billioniare entreprenuer Mike Cannon-Brookes' for his redundant Paddington home through McGrath agent Ben Collier.

Cannon-Brookes, the co-founder of Atlassian, and his fashion-design industry wife, Annie Cannon-Brookes paid $7.3 million for the Hargrave Street landmark in 2010, after it was on the market for two years.

Now with three children, they have relocated to the $12 million Centennial Park Federation trophy home, Braelin.

Mike Cannon-Brookes was at his San Francisco offices when he signed the sales contract on Friday, before heading off to the Rugby World Cup final. 
 
It sold within a week of its formal advertising although McGrath selling agent Ben Collier has shows through select buyers since early October.  

The landmark converted Windsor Castle Hotel was sold at a record $13 million price for Paddington last week when bought by hotelier Ben May and his wife, Lucy.

The new residence had been three years in construction by interior designer Rita Polovin and her husband, former restaurateur Peter Polovin who paid $4.3 million in 2009. At the time the hotel prices were going backwards at it fetched $5 million in 2007.

Until last week Paddington's record had stood at $7.75 million - first set in 2006 for a double terrace on Union Street and then matched when developer Stephen Dunkley sold his contemporary Goodhope Street home in 2010.

Duncan and Lynley Hardie had paid $4,625,000 in 2003 for the former House of Desks outlet, then spent $4 million plus converting the former 1907 emporium into a four-storey, but eight level trophy mansion.

ANZ trader Etienne Alexiou lists in Point Piper

A reputed $19 million sale has been secured on harbourfront Point Piper. 

The Wunulla Road sale was through Ray White agents Michael Finger and Elliott Placks.

Meanwhile the intended Point Piper trophy home of ANZ trader Etienne Alexiou which was purchase in early last year for $7.2 million has been relisted for sale.

It was bought from the Melbourne property developer Adrian Valmorbida by Alexiou who was named earlier this year named as one of seven senior traders suspended by the bank following an investigation into possible manipulation of the bank bill swap rate.

The Federation Wunulla Road home now comes with Alex Popov redesign plans. 

The previous owner, the shoe designer Donna-May Bolinger also sold it without undertaking her envisaged update.

She secured $6.37 million in 2007 having paid $5.85 million in 2005.

Geza and Eva Szekely owned it for four decades having bought it in 1965 for £22,500.

The Wunulla Road house is on a double-access block opposite the yacht club marina. 

Alexiou, who currently resides in Woollahra, has a November 23 scheduled auction through D’Leanne Lewis, of Laing+Simmons Double Bay.

 

Drew Cole designed home sells in Toorak

A newly-designed Toorak trophy home by architect Drew Cole has been sold after being listed with $7.5 million plus hopes.

Scott Patterson and Michael Armstrong from Kay Burton secured the sale of the four bedroom, four bathroom home.

It comes an internal lift which spans the three level house.

There is a 12 seat home cinema at 4 Woorigoleen Road.

It was last traded when the 1950s house on its 616 sqm block was sold in early 2014 by Peter Benison at Marshall White & Co at $3,075,000. 

The latest sale price has gone undisclosed sold at private auction. 

The median house price for a four bedroom house in Toorak stands at just over $4 million.

It was briefly put up to rent by Marshall White Real Estate in August before being listed for sale.

Toorak homes are currently showing a $3.27 million median having peaked at $3.3 million last year.

Vaucluse trophy home Djirang sold

The property developer Lim Sen Yap and his wife Elizabeth Garbacz have sold Djirang, their Vaucluse trophy home.

It was listed with $12 million plus expectations through Hamish Robertson at McGrath, who had the three storey Fisher Avenue home in conjunction with Christie's International.

The former chairman of retail property group Ipoh bought the historic F. Glynn Gilling-designed residence in 1996 for $3.4 million from restaurateur Harry Vardis. 

Ipoh Australia was the developer behind the QVB Building and Capitol Theatre restorations.

The home, built in the early 1940s for the Butler family and originally known as Marseilles, won Woollahra Council’s heritage conservation award in 2001.

Leura, Bellevue Hill trophy sold

A record $30 million plus has been paid for Leura, the Bellevue Hill trophy home.

The businessman Ken Allen and his wife, Christine sold at an undisclosed price to an Australian buyer the day before its scheduled private auction.

The home was listed in August by Michael Finger and Diane Wilson of Ray White Double Bay.

One of Sydney's finest estates, the 1891 Bellevue Hill mansion has just had the six owners through its 125 years.

It was built on the Bellevue Hill ridge line for the Knox family, of the then burgeoning Colonial Sugar Refinery empire. 

The Federation Queen Anne style home dates back to the 1890s when built for Tom Knox, managing director of the Dalgety stock and station agency.

It last traded through Michael Finger in 1986 for a then very impressive $7.3 million when sold by the top end home restorer Bill Shipton, who'd engaged building designer, Roderick Learoyd, trained at the Oxford School of Architecture, to assist in its renaissance.

The calendar company patriarch Ken Allen and his wife, Christine, have homes in New Zealand and London.

The eight bedroom, eight bathroom heritage home sits on a 4260 sqm block with tennis court and a swimming pool. It does now need renovations which limited some buying interest. 

It tops the $28 million suburb record set in 2013 when property developer Bob Ell bought Addenbrooke.

Alexander Downer lists grand SA Martinsell estate

Diplomat Alexander Downer and his wife, Nicky have listed their family's grand Georgian Martinsell estate in South Australia's Barossa.

It comes with $2 million hopes through Oren Klemich of Klemich Real Estate for Australia’s high commissioner to Britain, and former foreign minister.

It is regarded as one of the Barossa’s stately trophy homes, bought by Downers’ parents in 1974.

Following Sir Alick’s death in 1981, his widow Lady Mary stayed on at the Pewsey Vale address until her death in October last year.

Historic items have been recently donated to the University of South Australia’s Alexander Downer Collection.

The 77 acres have 12 acres of sav blanc vineyard contracted to Grant Burge wines.

The Downers last year sold their Mount George family home to make the move to London.

The Sovereign Islands estate Villa Blue Waters has been listed for sale on Queensland's Gold Coast.

It's the glamourous Paradise Point property which halved in value in recent years.

But the waterfront property is back for sale with $10.5 million hopes as Gold Coast estate agent Andrew A Murray at Murray & Associates sees the property market as resurgent.

It was last bought for $3.45 million in 2013 from Christian Ainsworth.

Corinda, Hobart bed and breakfast for sale

Investor Matthew Ryan and creative director Wilmar Bouman are selling their 1880 Hobart investment, Corinda.

The Italianate Victorian five bedroom, two bathroom residence was built in 1880 by former lord mayor of Hobart, Alfred Crisp.

The land had previously been part of a convict-run vegetable garden before wealthy timber merchant Alfred Crisp built the main residence. 

Alfred's daughter lived in the house until 1930 before the property became a boarding house for 30 years.

Matthew and Wilmar restored the property and its gardens and have converted the historic outbuildings into self-contained cottages furnished with collections of antiques. 

The pair won a National Trust Preservation award for the restoration of Corinda in 1995.

The 1796 sqm property is currently being ran as a bed and breakfast. The service quarters, coach houses and gardeners cottage are all available to rent for between $265-$315 per night.  

The property is available through Kim Morgan of Charlotte Peterswalk for Property who is expecting $3 million plus for the combined nine bedroom estate.

The couple have owned the property since 1992 when they bought for $325,000.

Temperature Design director Vicki Corbett and businessman husband Peter Carroll have snappily sold their Gary Hunt-designed Port Douglas holiday home, One Batujimba for $2.8 million.
 
They bought One Batujimba in 2003 for $350,000 and used the property as a holiday home given Vicki's design company based in Melbourne.
 
Peter previously worked for Coca Cola in Atalanta, Japan and Hong Kong and more recently for global healthcare company Ansell in Melbourne before leaving his post in 2013.

Buyer found for Bellevue Hill trophy home

Prominent downsizing company directors, Origin Energy's Dr Helen Nugent and TransGrid Michael Nugent have finally secured a buyer for their Bellevue Hill trophy home.

The Michael Suttor-designed residence set in manicured Italianate gardens with a copper-domed Roman cupola next to the pool and tennis court had $15 million plus hopes. 

Their Victoria Road property with Michael Love interiors had been listed by Alison Coopes’ Agency by Alison Coopes in April.

The couple bought the property when they moved to Sydney from Melbourne 25 years ago paying $4.25 million in 1990 to the property developer Garry Rothwell's Winten Group who had outlaid $2.7 million less than a year earlier.

The Nugent's 1885 South Yarra abode, Raveloe had sold for $2.5 million in 1990 to the shelf company precurser to Starch Australasia.

In 1994 Michael Nugent entirely wiped his $2.4 million Bellevue Hill mortgage after Goodman Fielder's $5.4 million redundancy payout, but another mortgage was taken in 2000.

After stepping down last year from Macquarie Group, Helen's board duties include Australian credit reference agency Veda and Funds SA. Michael's were lightened this month after stepping down from Murrumbidgee Irrigation, one of the largest private irrigation companies in Australia serving over 3,200 landholdings owned by over 2,500 customers within an area of 660,000 hectares.

A Toorak home has been listed with $18 million expectations.

Charleston, at 774 Orrong Road, sits on close to 2000 square metres with tennis court and pool.

The five bedroom, five bathroom home on 1965 square metres was last sold at auction in 2007 by adman Hylton Mackley at $7.8 million, against a reserve of $6.5 million.

There has been a recently completed a $3.5 million renovation. '

Kay & Burton’s Andrew Baines is marketing 774 Orrong Road for private sale. 

He sold it last time for then director of advertising firm Clemenger Communications, Hylton Mackley, and his wife, Eileen who had bought the property 20 years earlier for $1.425 million.

Derriweit, Mt Macedon up for sale at $3.75 million plus
