Despite the roller coaster share price, Anthony Eisen the boss of the controversial by now pay later lender, Afterpay has bought on Wategos Beach at Byron Bay.

It's the holiday home previously rented by the likes of Kate Moss and Elle Macpherson, who paid $14,000 a week.

It was sold by Boorowa farmer Charlie Arnott, of the Arnott’s Biscuits family to the boss of the ASX-listed payday lender.

This week, Kim Kardashian promoted the digital lender which has been attracting the supervisory interest of the Australian Senate and banking regulators given debt vulture accusations.

Arnott bought the Marine Parade property in 2009 for $5.5 million from Sausage Software founder Steve Outtrim.

Overlooking Wategos Beach, is the epitome of a classic beach house.

Set on the exclusive Marine Parade, The White House has been designed to frame the expansive ocean views from its elevated north facing location.

Four of the five bedrooms have ocean views, while the hub of the home is the second level open plan living and dining area which opens out to a large ocean facing entertaining deck.

The top floor of the striking tri-level home is occupied by the master retreat which has its own ensuite and private balcony, also facing the beach.

The White House sits a few houses down from the Byron Bay record breaker, which has stood since 2006.

Sydney developer Danny Goldberg paid $16 million for Wategos House, a six bedroom beachfront set on 1,500 square metres opposite the popular Rae's on Wategos restaurant.

Boorowa farmer Charlie Arnott, of the Arnott’s Biscuits family, secured around $7.6 million.

Known as The White House, it was listed in September 2017 with initial hopes of $8.9 million, and sold after 90 days on the market by Ruth Gotterson, of McGrath, but the deal then fell through.

Eisen was found late last month as the replacement buyer.

Fairwater sells for $100 million mortgage-free to Mike Cannon Brookes

$

Australia’s most expensive house, Fairwater, which sold for $100 million earlier this year, was bought mortgagee free.

The Double Bay harbourfront mansion sold to the tech billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes and his wife Annie in September.

The only official name on title is Mike's. The transfer document doesn't specify the price.

The title document affirms its Double Bay location, despite reports by the former Fairfax Media newspapers that the property was located into Point Piper.

It was on the market for three weeks through Christies International agent Ken Jacobs.

The second-most expensive house, Rona in Bellevue Hill, sold in October, for $58 million.

The Cannon-Brookes family had already taken the keys to the property ahead of its initial extended settlement terms.

“We love the idea of raising our four young children in this historic property, filling the house and gardens with love and laughter through the years,” they said on its purchase.

Fairwater is the largest privately-held property on Sydney Harbour at 1.12 hectares.

It comes with an 1881-built residence designed by architect John Horbury Hunt.

Built for stockbroker Francis Edward Joseph, it last traded in 1901 for £5350 when purchased by Sir James Oswald Fairfax, grandson of The Sydney Morning Herald co-founder John Fairfax.

It was listed by the executors of the estate of the late Lady (Mary) Fairfax, who died in 2017, aged 95.

Lady Fairfax briefly contemplated gifting her mansion to the people of NSW.

In 1996 Lady Fairfax announced a trust of seven was being established to oversee the estate's future.

Lady Fairfax, who later declined to confirm her intended gift, had moved into Fairwater with her husband, Sir Warwick in 1969.

During her decades the Fairwater grounds had been regularly opened for charitable fundraising occasions, including the East West Foundation, the Australia Ireland Fund, the Opera Foundation Australia (founded by Lady Fairfax) and the Cochlear Implant Centre, Sydney.

At one dark stage in the Fairfax annuls, the mother of fallen media boss Warwick Fairfax, suggested after he lost the newspaper empire, that she might have had to sell part of the grounds to pay the land tax and its upkeep.

"Fairwater is safe but what is Fairwater without the garden, it's just another big old house," she said amid the 1990 company stockmarket turmoil.

Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar, who owns the unencumbered neighbouring home, Elaine, were ranked equal 11th and 12th on this year’s Financial Review Rich List, worth $5.16 billion.

Frankston South landmark Yamala, set above Daveys Bay Beach, hits the market

Yamala, the sprawling hillside estate set high above Daveys Bay Beach at Frankston South, has been listed for sale.

The 19th century built stately English-style manor is steeped in history, having previously been the country retreat of Sir John Madden, former Chief Justice and lieutenant-governor of Victoria.

It was also once owned by the Lord of the Manor of Loxton.

Yamala dates back to 1854 when William Woolley acquired 42 hectares of land overlooking the beach.

He built a smaller four bedroom house in the 1870s before selling not long after to Madden, who was based in the mansion Cloyne in St Kilda.

The Maddens, who extensively extended the Woolley house, sold the 13 hectare property to restaurateur A.J Lucas for £16,100 after Sir John's death.

Built of solid stone, the mansion has 17 rooms. There are six bedrooms, a study, self-contained former servants' quarters, a sunken drawing room with pressed leather wallpaper a bar built in the early 1900's to replicate London's Savoy Hotel.

The entrance pillars and landscaping is the work of architect Walter Burley Griffin, who undertook a makeover in the late 1920s.

In the grounds is a renovated Roman-style saltwater, solar-heated swimming pool and spa, accompanied by a limestone poolhouse. A path leads directly from the home through the gardens to Daveys Bay Beach.

The initials of each of the former owners are inscribed on a stained glass window on the ground floor.

Yamala has a $5.3 million to $5.83 million guide. It last traded for $2.9 million in 2012.

Harcourts Mount Eliza agents Jayme Wallison and Ben Crowder are marketing the home in conjunction with Community Real Estate.
