Award-winning 'house of cats' home in Melbourne sells

In Fitzroy North, it was buyers from North Queensland who paid $1.3 million post-auction on an award winning two-bedroom home, Casa de Gatos, which translates to house of cats in Spanish. 

The single storey 49 Rae Street property had come with $1.2 million to $1.3 million price guidance after its design by WOWOWA Architects.

The home won the Victorian Australian Institute of Architects 2017 Small Projects Award, expressly designed with the owners two dogs and two cats in mind.

Husband and wife team Monique and Scott Woodward are the founding directors of WOWOWA – a studio “governed by the metric of happiness”.

Its most striking feature is a curved, carpeted, orange cat wall topped by an aerial cat walkway.

Nelson Alexander agent Rick Daniel told The Age it wasn’t the biggest selling point for the new owners.

Melbourne's top weekend auction sale was when a Sydney buyer secured a luxury $2,062,000 Williamstown townhouse.

The 4 Stanley Street three-bedroom home was built two years ago, with a rooftop terrace overlooking the bay towards the city.

It had been offered by Williams agent Michael Harvey with $1.8 million to $1.9 million hopes.

Williamstown's median house price sits at nearly $1.5 million.

A home at Warrnambool on Victoria’s southern coastline has just sold.

While the sale figure is undisclosed, it was advertised with a price guide of between $1.82 million and $2 million.

It was sold by Ian Baudinette from Harris & Wood Real Estate,

It is a 2.5-hectare beachside block occupied by a four-bedroom house located at 9 Logans Beach Road, Warrnambool.

The house comes with four bedrooms, four separate living areas, spa bathroom, updated kitchen with stone bench tops and double garage.

It was sold by Chris Huxtable from Fall Real Estate.

Ian Moore's univeristy days Darlinghurst terrace commission for sale

During his final year of his architecture degree in the late 1980s, Ian Moore was commissioned to work on a Darlinghurst terrace.

The terrace had been a burnt out squatters den with Moore remembering climbing over people sleeping on mattresses in the graffiti covered rooms.

His reconfiguration of the terrace into two separate spaces took four years.

Its exposed rear steel-framed wing with spiral staircase has become an architectural landmark, built in stark contrast to the street facade which was restored to its original Victorian detail.

A contemporary Lilyfield house was sold prior to its scheduled weekend auction by Pilcher Residential.

The 2013-built house at 13 Alfred Street was due to be auctioned on Saturday.

Selling agent Simon Pilcher said the home had a $3.4 million guide price.

It sold for $3.5 million after two families put in offers.

Both had been looking for over 12 months,” he said.

The master bedroom had its own outside retreat with a spa and a day bed.

It was reported to have fetched around $5 million after being passed in at $4.85 million.

It was the second attempt to sell the home.
